Everything you need to know at a glance
What is hearing protection, and why is it important?
You only have one set of ears, and hearing damage is irreversible – once impaired, it cannot be restored. Proper hearing protection safeguards your hearing from noise damage, water, or other influences. Our hearing protection products protect you in all situations – whether at work, during sports, or in noisy environments.
Customised vs universal hearing protection – what’s the difference?
We offer both customised (Custom) and universal (Unifit) hearing protection options. Our Unifit products, such as Unifit work and Unifit fidelity, are ideal for occasional use. However, if you prioritise comfort and an optimal fit, customised hearing protection is the best choice. With over 30 years of expertise in tailoring these solutions, we’ve earned the trust of hundreds of thousands of customers. Once you've experienced the benefits of customised earmoulds, you’ll never want to go back to standard products.
How is customised hearing protection made?
Customised hearing protection is individually crafted for you using advanced 3D printing technology. The process begins with a precise impression of your ear, taken by an audiologist or hearing protection specialist. (Details about the ear impression process can be found here.)
Next, our experts use specialised software for 3D ear products to create a digital blueprint. This file is loaded into a high-precision 3D printer, which produces the raw form of your hearing protection in about two hours. After printing, the raw model is carefully finished to ensure a perfect fit and a bespoke surface. On request, we can add personalised laser engraving for a unique design or identification.
How do I care for and clean my hearing protection?
Proper care and cleaning are crucial for the longevity and functionality of your hearing protection. We offer oto-fresh®, a dedicated cleaning range for hearing protection earmoulds. For quick cleaning, our cleaning wipes, available in various sizes in our shop, are ideal. For a deeper clean, you can use our oto-fresh® cleaning tablets, which are compatible with all products except the fidelity series. You may also clean your hearing protection with mild shampoo, a gentle soap solution, or lukewarm water. Important: For the fidelity series, ensure the hearing protection filter is removed before cleaning, as the filter must not come into contact with water.
How long does custom-made ear protection last?
Custom-made ear protection has an average lifespan of 5 years. During this time, not only can you protect your hearing optimally, but you also save a significant amount of waste by choosing custom ear protection over disposable products. Whether your ear protection still fits perfectly after 5 years depends on individual changes in your body – and sometimes, as surprising as it may sound, the natural changes in the anatomy and condition of your ears. If your ear protection still fits well, you can have it checked for functionality at an audiologist. They will assess whether it still reliably protects your ears from noise. Learn more about how this works here.
How is it ensured that the ear protection is adjusted to the volume, and that you choose the correct filter?
We follow the same standards for ear protection used in companies and industries, even for personal use. The noise exposure level of 80 dB should not be exceeded for more than 8 hours during a day. Based on this, you can select your filter. If you're unsure, our chatbot can give you a recommendation, or our ear protection professionals can provide thorough advice. If you still have doubts or feel that 80 dB is too loud, there's an option to change the filter.
How much does custom-made ear protection cost?
Custom noise protection is available starting at €150 RRP, and custom hearing protection starts at €160 RRP – including fitting and VAT. The exact costs depend on the selected model. For more information, please refer to the respective non-binding recommended retail price (RRP).
Does the ear protection offer universal or specialized noise reduction levels?
Our ear protection products offer you individually adjustable noise reduction levels thanks to advanced filter technology and a wide range of filter options. With filter lines such as work or fidelity, you can choose the desired "sound signature" – how the ear protection sounds – according to your preferences. Additionally, the varying degrees of ear protection filters allow you to adjust the noise reduction strength to suit your needs. Perfect for work, leisure, or music lovers who value optimal protection and the best sound quality.
When do custom ear protection ear molds make sense for me?
Are you looking for ear protection that fits perfectly? Then custom ear protection ear molds are exactly what you need! Particularly if you wear ear protection regularly or for long periods, a custom fit is the best choice. Another advantage: sustainability. With custom ear protection, you actively reduce waste created by disposable ear protection products. Additionally, custom-made options offer incomparable comfort – no more uncomfortable, pinching, or ill-fitting standard ear protection! The most important point: you're making a long-term investment in your hearing health and protection.
Where does bachmaier® get the expertise to develop and produce high-quality ear protection?

Thanks to our in-house development department, we ensure that our products are always up-to-date with the latest technology and provide the highest quality.
I am a company and need ear protection for my employees. What should I do?
Are you looking for ear protection for your employees or need a larger quantity, for example, for your company or association? We have the perfect solution for you! Simply get in touch with us if you need a complete setup.
We work with a partner company that has field staff nationwide. Alternatively, we can arrange for an audiologist to come directly to your location to professionally coordinate everything. Just send us a brief message to office@bachmaier.de – we'll take care of the rest!
What is the difference between an ear scan and a silicone ear impression?
If you're wondering whether an ear scan or a silicone ear impression is better, we can reassure you: there is no difference in terms of the process. Both methods are precise and yield excellent results. The process with the silicone material in the ear takes about 5 minutes. It is comfortable and ensures stable, reliable results. An ear scan also takes about 5 minutes and, when done correctly, delivers equally high-quality results. The choice between an ear scan and a silicone ear impression typically depends on the preference of your audiologist. Both methods allow us to implement your customizations professionally.
Why do I have to pick up my ear protection from the audiologist, and why can't it be sent directly to me?
It is extremely important to us that you are properly instructed on how to handle and use your custom-made ear protection. Only this way can you ensure that the ear protection provides the best possible protection. Additionally, it is essential to verify and confirm the functionality of the ear protection. Various testing systems such as hearing tests, pressure tests, or seal tests are used for this purpose.
For this reason, we do not send finished ear protection products directly to your home. Instead, we ask you to schedule an appointment with an audiologist near you. During this appointment, they will check whether the ear protection fits correctly, seals properly, and works optimally. Only then can we guarantee that the ear protection will provide the desired level of protection and remain reliable in the long term.
What should I do if I lose an ear protection filter?
Lost an ear protection filter? No problem! Our filters are fully compatible with all bachmaier series – regardless of when your ear protection was made. Simply order new replacement filters directly from our online store. The filter replacement is easy and can be done at home.
Why must the fidelity ear protection not be cleaned under water?
The fidelity ear protection is specially designed to provide optimal hearing protection. The filter ensures precise flat attenuation, achieved through a combination of air chambers and a membrane (similar to a headphone). This sensitive design is not compatible with water, which is why we strongly advise against cleaning the fidelity ear protection under water.
Why do you display RRP (recommended retail price) on your website even though you don't sell directly?
We place great importance on ensuring you are well-informed and feel confident when choosing your custom ear protection. Price transparency is an important factor to provide clarity from the outset.

Which custom hearing protection solution best suits your individual needs?
Looking for custom-made ear? We offer three types of ear protection solutions tailored to different needs:
1. Custom-made ear protection without electronics:
These products offer passive noise reduction – sounds are simply quieter. You can choose between options with filter technology that allow certain frequencies to pass through better, and those without filter technology.
2. Electronic ear protection:
Our electronic models are available both as unifit versions (universal size) and as customfit versions (made to measure). Some models combine passive noise reduction with the ability to transmit your audio source directly to your ears via Bluetooth.
3. Specialized solutions for industry and communication:
For specific requirements, such as communication in noisy environments, we offer ear protection with individually adjustable noise reduction levels and Bluetooth signal transmission.
Unsure which product is best for you? No problem – we are experts in custom solutions.
Is the ear impression for custom-made ear protection painful?
No, the ear impression process for custom-made ear protection is completely painless and comfortable. Whether it's done with ear impression silicone or a modern ear scanner, the process is straightforward. Our partner audiologists are highly qualified: every audiologist you find via our store locator has learned how to take ear impressions during their training and performs this procedure regularly – several times a week, especially for hearing aids.
Can I change the filter in the ear protection myself?
Yes, this is possible! Our work and fidelity ear protection lines are specifically designed so that you can replace the filters on your own. Replacement filters for your ear protection are available directly from our online shop or from a retailer near you. This way, your ear protection is always ready to use.
Where can I have custom-made ear protection created?

What does "Otoplastics" mean?
Otoplastics is a term derived from the words "Oto" (ear) and "plastere" (to fit). Literally, it means "custom-fit to the ear." The term originally comes from hearing aid technology but is now also frequently used in connection with custom ear protection. An otoplastic is a specially customized ear protection that fits perfectly to the shape of the ear. It provides not only optimal protection from noise but also high comfort. Due to its individual fit, custom ear protection is especially indispensable in loud environments such as industrial settings, craftsmanship, or at music events, and it has become an essential part of many areas of life today.
Why can I only purchase the product through an audiologist?
Our Unifit series can be easily purchased online, without any hassle. However, our custom-made ear protection products (custom products) require certain services – both during the ordering and fitting process, as well as when adjusting them to your ear. Therefore, we distribute our custom line exclusively through selected partner audiologists. These professionals have years of experience and are experts in their field. With this approach, we ensure that you receive custom ear protection that fits perfectly and provides the best long-term protection. Find the right audiologist partner near you now.
Where is bachmaier® ear protection produced?
The high-quality ear protection from bachmaier® and the associated filters are mostly produced in Germany, with a smaller portion manufactured within the European Union. We place great emphasis on quality and regional production – that's why the value-added process takes place either in southern Bavaria or approximately 500 km south in Hungary.
Where can I buy ear protection?
Are you looking for high-quality ear protection? We operate across Europe and collaborate with wholesalers in most European countries. In the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), we have an extensive network of dealers consisting of experienced audiologists. In principle, any audiologist or hearing care professional worldwide can take an impression of your ears and order custom ear protection directly through us.
What if I urgently need my ear protection or just don't want to wait?
A: We offer an express service that ensures your ear protection goes through our production within 24 hours. After production, your ear protection will be sent via express shipping so that you receive it the very next day. Important: Please speak with your local audiologist. Ideally, they can send us digital scans of your ears directly. If that is not possible, the impressions should be sent to us via express. The costs for this service are individually agreed upon between you and your audiologist.
B: Quite simple: With our express service, the production of your hearing protection is prioritized. For this, your audiologist's order must reach us by 2 PM. Within 24 hours of receiving the order, we hand over your hearing protection to an express shipping provider. Thanks to UPS Express Saver, you will receive your hearing protection the next day – no later than 12 PM (delivery from Monday to Friday).
Note: The express service is currently available only in Germany and Austria. In other European countries, the production time remains the same, but shipping may take an additional 1-2 days.
How and with which products can filters be changed?
Filters can be replaced in our fidelity ear protection and work ear protection products. Other products in our range do not have replaceable filters.
How is it checked that the custom ear protection fits correctly and provides optimal protection?
A well-fitting ear protection is essential for protecting your hearing. The audiologist on-site can verify this through a seal measurement with a special device or by conducting an audiometric hearing test. This ensures that your ear protection is functioning reliably. In most cases, this is a free service – but it’s advisable to check beforehand to confirm.
How binding is the RRP for custom ear protection (including in-ear models)?
We set a price range for our products but cannot guarantee the final price. Whether you receive a discount or pay a higher price depends on individual circumstances. Ultimately, the decision is yours. If you have had a negative experience, please contact us – we welcome your feedback to improve our products and services.
What are custom-fit in-ears?
Custom-fit in-ear monitors are specially crafted for your ears. They are based on an ear mould, offering a perfect fit and exceptional sound quality. Our hearos are designed specifically for stage use and are available in two materials.
What is in-ear monitoring?
For a great performance, musicians need to hear themselves clearly on stage. This can be achieved through loudspeakers or specially designed in-ear monitors.
Which model is suitable for bands?
All hearos models are designed for band use and stage performances. While the sound profile varies between models, all deliver the full audible frequency range in a relatively neutral manner, ensuring musicians receive an uncoloured monitor signal. Robust materials, cables, and connection systems make hearos ideal for the demands of life on the road.
How are custom-fit in-ears made?
First, an ear mould is taken by a hearing care professional or an in-ear dealer. Using this mould, we create your in-ears with state-of-the-art 3D technology.
Where can I get custom-fit in-ears made?
You can have ear moulds made by a hearing care professional or an in-ear dealer. We then use these to produce your custom hearos. Sales and aftercare are handled through your professional provider.
How do I clean and maintain my custom-fit in-ears?
Clean them regularly with a soft cloth and specialised products to remove dirt and earwax. Avoid letting liquids enter the electronic components. Cleaning and maintenance products are available for purchase.
Do custom-fit in-ears have noise cancelling?
Our custom-fit in-ears do not feature active noise cancelling, but their perfect fit provides excellent passive noise isolation.
Is the ear mould process painful or uncomfortable?
No, the process is pain-free and takes only a few minutes. While it may feel unusual, it is entirely harmless. You can learn more about the process in this [video link].
What audio quality do custom-fit in-ears offer?
Thanks to their perfect fit, custom-fit in-ears deliver outstanding sound quality and excellent sound isolation. Our hearos models are tuned to a linear studio sound profile.
Can I replace the earwax protection filter myself?
Yes, our hearos models use HF-3 filters, with smaller HF-4 filters in exceptional cases. The bachmaier comm always uses HF-4 filters. These filters can be replaced easily, and we recommend regular replacement.
What is the difference between custom-fit and universal in-ears?
Custom-fit in-ear monitors are tailored to ear moulds made from your ears, ensuring a perfect fit that provides lasting comfort and consistent audio quality, even during movement or extended use. In contrast, our universal-fit in-ears feature a design that suits most users quite well.
What are the advantages of in-ear monitoring?
Stages can get very loud. Traditional loudspeaker monitoring increases overall sound levels, while in-ears protect your hearing and let you hear your personalised mix with clarity and at a safe volume.
What are custom-fit in-ears used for?
Custom-fit in-ears are beneficial in many situations, especially when standard in-ears don’t fit properly, cause discomfort over time, or fall out during movement. While our hearos models are specifically designed for musicians, they can also be used for sports or travel. The smaller, simpler bachmaier comm model is ideal for communication, security, or podcasting.
How long does manufacturing and delivery take?
The production process typically takes 10 to 14 business days after we receive your ear moulds.
How long do custom-fit in-ears last?
With proper care, they can last for several years. However, intensive use or changes in your ear shape may reduce their lifespan.
Can custom-fit in-ears be returned or exchanged?
As a bespoke product, they cannot be returned or exchanged. However, they can be adjusted or repaired if needed.
What happens if my in-ears don’t fit properly?
If they don’t fit perfectly, you can request free adjustments within 30 days.
How much do custom-fit in-ears cost?
Prices vary depending on the model and features. Custom requests, such as adding a personal logo, may incur additional costs.
Can I replace the cable myself?
Yes, we use Estron cables with a T2 connection system for our hearos. They are designed for easy replacement and frequent use. A red ring marks the right side, and a black ring marks the left.
